The root (no pun intended) of the company, starting out as a produce market and gift shop, Plants and Things now offers just about everything that could transform a yard into your own private paradise. From the exquisite fountains and birdbaths, to the Victorian-rich outdoor lamps, to the cozy fire pits, chimneas, wicker and outdoor furniture to one of the largest sellers of poly lumber furniture in the country, our outdoor store can bring the added color for your yard.
Plants and Things first opened in 1980 as a small produce stand located on a vacant farm lot on the corner of Highway 10 and Sunfish Lake Boulevard in Anoka, Minnesota. The small business sold locally grown fruits, vegetables, and flowers during the spring and summer months, as well as pumpkins in the fall and Christmas trees in the winter.
After one successful year of business, the company expanded into the farmhouse on the lot built in 1856. They added accessories and antique furniture to the list of merchandise already sold by the company. Plants and Things soon expanded even more by adding an oak furniture gallery, allowing the farmhouse to sell only gifts and accessories.
The store has grown to over 11 acres of outdoor furniture and products from fountains, streetlights, birdbaths, patio furniture, picnic tables, and statues. It also still features the gift shop in the farmhouse and the flowers in the farm market.
